Abstract
The present experiment was undertaken in an attempt to determine the differential effects of withholding cued and uncued reinforcement on response rate during extinction. 8 albino rats were conditioned to climb to the top of a platform and wait for a buzzer before jumping 30.48 cm through a hinged door to a reward compartment. For half of the 8 subjects cued reinforcement was withheld during extinction. The results implied that the differential effects of withholding cued and uncued reinforcement on response rate were not due to the cessation but rather the delay of the conditioned response.
