Abstract
This research was designed to demonstrate the heuristic value of Osgood's semantic differential method for assessing the psychological meaning of concepts and attitudes. Using citations listed in the Psychological Abstracts, semantic differential frequencies for 751 articles were tallied. Articles were extracted on an annual basis from 1952 through 1976. Employing a classification scheme based on types of research, the semantic differential studies identified were further analyzed by content-domain areas.
