The parallel analysis criterion and the roots < 1 criterion were applied to the standardization data for four of Wechsler's intelligence scales. The two criteria agreed on the number of factors for 14 of 24 age groups, while for the other 10 groups the parallel analysis criterion indicated one more factor than the roots > 1 criterion.
