52 multigravidas and 42 primigravidas in the third trimester of pregnancy were given the MMPI. Primigravidas obtained a significantly lower score on Hysteria and a significantly higher score on Hypomania. Since significant differences were found on only 2 of 17 scales, it was concluded that —insofar as the MMPI can measure—these two groups are very similar in their emotional responses to pregnancy.
