The purpose of the present study was to factor a scale to measure motivation and potential for adoptive parenthood using data from 530 families. The two parts of the scale were analyzed separately. On the motivation subscale, two factors were found. On the potential subscale, nine factors were obtained for the adoptive mothers, and eight for the adoptive fathers. The factors were described, and the implications for practice were discussed.
