A sample of 246 attempted suicides was examined to see whether those attempting suicide after a recent loss had also experienced a loss early in life. It was found that, for the 137 females who had attempted suicide, the presence of recent loss as a precipitating factor was associated with the experience of loss of both parents before age 10.
