Abstract
An effort was made to determine if publishers' test manuals designed to accompany various basic college textbooks, can easily be obtained by students using fictitious names, university stationery and a campus box number. More than one-half of the manuals requested were received. Only one of 23 requests was detected as being illegitimate. Although 3 companies said there was no manual, 7 did not reply. The validity of any test will be seriously impaired if simple precautions are not taken to ensure against its unauthorized availability.
