Abstract
A distinction is made between susceptibility measured by the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale which contains a predominance of ideomotor items and the Stanford Profile Scales which contain more cognitive items. Low-susceptible Ss subjected to 6 hr. of sensory deprivation showed moderate increases on the Stanford scale, a result consistent with previous research. However, these Ss showed no gains on the Profile scales, and it was concluded that the effect of sensory deprivation may be limited to low-susceptible Ss.
