Abstract
Referring to the work of Rotter, a relationship between a generalized expectancy for internal-external control (I-E) and task leadership status was hypothesized. Employing an experimental design of three- and four-member groups subdivided by I-E score and sex, Ss were requested to write group papers due later, at which time the task leadership was measured. Task leaders tended to show a belief in internal control and followers a belief in external control. The relationship was accentuated within single-sex groups and with extreme I-E Ss.
