Abstract
Contrary to expectations, 20 sensitizers did not increase their neuroticism scores as a function of induced situational stress. Situational stress did, however, significantly increase extraversion scores of the sensitizers. It was hypothesized that neuroticism scores measure “baseline anxiety” which is relatively unaffected by situational stress. Extraversion scores, however, were hypothesized to be more responsive to situationally induced anxiety. It was hypothesized that the sensitizers responded in a more extraverted fashion as a means of controlling the arousal of situational anxiety.
