The evaluation of a project on organizational change which utilized surveys showed apparent decreases in staff turnover around the time of data collection. Further examination showed that these apparent effects were probably spurious because there had been an increase in turnover among the potential survey respondents about 3 to 6 mo. earlier when the coming surveys were being publicized.
