37 demographic variables recorded for 214 male alcoholics being hospitalized in 5 different Minnesota treatment centers were factor analyzed. Low correlations among variables represented by high loadings on the 12 factors extracted lead to the conclusion that the alcoholic population tested can be described as being clearly heterogeneous in respect to these demographic characteristics.
