Abstract
In order to extend Guterman's (1970) findings that Machiavellianism in parents and children is positively correlated, 50 families from a small, rural community in Northern California were selected at random and contacted. 16 suitable families, with a total of 27 children, completed Guterman's adaptation of Christie's Machiavellianism scale. The results support Guterman's modeling hypothesis that children of high Machiavellian parents tend to be high Machiavellian also, while children of low Machiavellian parents tend to be low Machiavellians.
