Correlations between the extent of interdependent contacts and the adequacy of organizational coordination were examined in a nationwide sample of hospitals. No direct relationship was found, although an indirect positive relationship mediated by organizational strain was found as expected. It is suggested that further work be carried out on the apparent strain-reducing effects of interdependent contacts.
