Abstract
A logical analysis of psychological conflict suggests that, when pseudo instances of conflict are discounted, the four types of conflict commonly assumed reduce to one. The only genuine type is n-degree conflict. The various consistency theories (balance, dissonance, congruity, et al.) each assume only one type of inconsistency. But, since inconsistency includes conflict, so consistency theories implicitly assume only one type of conflict.
