The effect on activity of potassium chloride (KCl) or saline (NaCl) placed within the circumscribed dorso-frontal cortex was compared to homologous cortical ablations. Ablations had no effect on activity whereas NaCl and KCl produced significant decrement in activity. Results are presumably due to aversiveness of solutions on exposed dural pain fibers. These data question the postulated equivalence of functional and anatomical ablations.
