Sattler's and Valett's item-classification schemes for the Stanford-Binet were applied to data obtained from a sample of 80 retarded children. The correlations between the categories in the two schemes indicated that the schemes have a great deal in common. Ss appeared relatively strong in Language (Vocabulary and Verbal Fluency) and Reasoning (Judgment and Reasoning), but the items which they passed in these categories deal with verbal expression and visual discrimination of the simplest sort.
