Abstract
Failing to observe important demographic variables, psychological studies of the menarche have been largely indeterminate. Two groups of 12 girls differing in menarcheal status and matched for race, religion, chronological age, family size and parentage were given the I.P.A.T. Anxiety Scale. Pre-menarcheal girls showed significantly higher total scores than post-menarcheal Ss. Reasons for this difference were that pre-menarcheal Ss comprised a school minority or that deeper neurotic factors might be involved.
