Significant relationships were found for fifth graders (Ns = 40, 80, 100, 97) between reading (IQ controlled) and the acceptance of possible outcomes at the beginning and/or midpoint of a story. Scores were high and increased over time for superior readers, low for average readers, and moderate for inferior readers.
