On the Allport-Vernon Lindzey Study of Values bright students tested at Western Washington State College in 1966 and 1967 were lower in economic values and higher in aesthetic values than a local norm group. However, these same bright students responded to the Adjective Check List with lowet scores for defensiveness, self-control, personal adjustment, nurturance, affiliation, and deference but were higher on autonomy and total number of adjectives checked than the local norm group. The bright students appear to be more independent and less well adjusted.
