Portions of the standardization data for the DTVP, the ITPA, the WPPSI, the WISC, and the WAIS were analyzed to determine the variance components of their subtests. The use of the squared multiple correlation as a measure of the common variance throughout the analysis permits valid comparisons to be made among the five tests, and the findings also provide an empirical standard for evaluating the specific variance in other tests.
