42 women described their degree of sexual responsiveness and also the quality of their sexual experiences. A variety of measures of physiological reactivity (e.g., heart rate, vaginal temperature, GSR) were also obtained from them. The chief positive finding was that those who experienced intercourse as having an intense, arousing quality followed by relaxation in the post-orgasm period were characterized by relatively high levels of physiological arousal in a setting with numerous sexual connotations.
