Abstract
The WAIS (validity criterion) and SRA-NV were administered to a sample of 100 Ss; 20 Ss were selected randomly from 5 age groups. The WAIS mean was 96.53 (range = 66—127); the SRA-NV mean was 95.60 (range = 65—128). The Pearsonian r was .80. Scores differed more than 5 points for 67% of the sample; more than 10 points for 32%. The SRA-NV was an inconsistent predictor of the WAIS rating. The WAIS level tended to be ‘overestimated’ by a SRA-NV high achievement score and ‘underestimated’ by a low achievement score. The SRA-NV mean score declined with each age increment; the decline was appreciable past age 35. Conclusions are that (a) the SRA-NV is an inadequate estimator of the criterion score and (b) the SRA-NV's lack of age norms introduces serious error in the intellectual assessment of persons past 35.
