Responding to a commentary by Rosenthal (1967) on Ingraham and Harrington (1966), it is suggested that interest has centered on the existence of experimenter bias to such an extent as to obscure questions of relevant variables. Some surprisingly neglected aspects of statistical procedures and critical variables are examined.
