An experiment is reported in which the length of time between the cessation of one operant and the reinforcement of another operant is related to the effectiveness of counterconditioning. Within the limits of inter-operant delay investigated (no delay, 10-sec. delay, and 20-sec. delay) effectiveness of counterconditioning seems to increase directly with interval length. The implications of the findings for further research and applied behavior modification efforts are discussed.
