A one-trial passive avoidance sirnation for mice has been developed which eliminates some of the difficulties of previous procedures. The mouse is confined in a small, brightly lit chamber and is allowed to step into a large, dark chamber where he might be punished if the experimenter desires. Parallel plates instead of gcids are used. One-trial learning is quite efficient in this apparatus.
