Abstract
Several measures of anxiety were compared, including IPAT, MMPI indices, evaluator's and therapist's ratings, and the patient's self-ratings. Testing and rating of psychiatric out-patients was done early in the treatment process. The patient's self-ratings were stable and had moderately high correlations with all psychometric indices, but, with one possible exception, there was little correlation with evaluator and therapist ratings. Likewise, these ratings were not correlated with psychometric measures and only had a low correlation with each other. Certain psychometric measures were highly correlated, others only moderately so. Some possible explanations were given.
