36 rats were trained to press a bar for food and were subsequently extinguished on this task. During extinction, an electroconvulsive shock (ECS) was administered. ECS animals responded at a higher rate in a delayed test than did controls. This supports the view that ECS interferes with memory storage processes rather than results in a general inhibition of responding.
