Abstract
Psychological evaluations of Barry Goldwater, made by psychiatrists during the 1964 presidential campaign in response to a questionnaire, are summarized. The disparity and regional character of the diagnoses are interpreted as a sad commentary on a sizeable representation of contemporary psychiatry. Psychologists might well have done little better.
