Abstract
For the purpose of deriving and formulating fruitful research hypotheses about some psycho-social aspects of smoking behavior, the authors devised and administered an exploratory questionnaire to 1,598 college freshman and sophomore students. In this paper are presented some preliminary findings of the questionnaire procedure. The data are arranged to point to certain constellations of differences among Non-smokers, Quitters, Light Smokers, and Heavy Smokers and between males and females for those four subgroups. Specific suggestions are made by the authors for further research.
