Environmentally Confined Groups on Semi-Starvation Diets

Abstract

The nutritional adequacy of minimal food and water supplies stocked by the Office of Civil Defense in public fallout shelters was evaluated. For a 2-wk. confinement, blood tests and urine analysis were made on 30 healthy volunteers, men, women, and children, aged 9 to 67 yr. Results indicated the bulgur wafer was adequate in maintaining good physiological state under the conditions of the confinement test.
