Fifteen members of a college fraternity were ranked on the sexual adequacy-inadequacy dimension, then divided into two groups. One group was presented a positive statement concerning sexual behavior and the other a negative one. The 11 Ss ranked as most sexually inadequate were manipulated by the experimental conditions, while the 4 least inadequate were not. Findings seem consistent with prediction from Festinger's cognitive dissonance concept.
