Conceptual systems theory distinguishes two aspects of concrete functioning, called System I and Sub I, which have demonstrated validity in a junior high school setting. These conceptual modes were defined in adults with operations similar to chose used in the school sample. Two relatively specific predictions, based on the System I-Sub I distinction, were not supported.
