Abstract
Fraternity pledges' written descriptions of other pledges were obtained in an attempt to replicate the findings of the Dornbusch, Hastorf, Richardson, Muzzy, and Vreeland (1965) study. The same coding scheme was used, except a change in the statistical analysis was employed to determine the amount of category agreement in three conditions, when a common perceiver described two people, when a common perceived was described by two people, and when there was no common perceived or perceiver. The common perceiver had significantly higher agreement; the common perceived did not produce higher agreement than cultural factors. Results were interpreted as showing the importance of the manner in which the perceiver structures his internal world.
