Abstract
This article is a reprint of Song As a Measure of Man, a recent publication by the Fine Arts Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Song As a Measure of Man was an outcome of an intensive two-day related arts workshop concerned with “Cantometrics,” the first public presentation of Alan Lomax's work in seven years. Lomax's findings reinforce the philosophical position of the Fine Arts Program, Pennsylvania Department of Education, and provide additional insight regarding the vital role of music in all human endeavor. This project was conceived and directed by Robert Revicki, a member of the Fine Arts Program staff. For their important assistance in the development of Song As a Measure of Man, the significant contributions of Christine Crist, Jon Dunn, and Alan Lomax are gratefully acknowledged.
