In August 1970, the District of Columbia Youth Orchestra flew to St. Moritz, Switzerland, to become one of nine groups participating in the Second International Festival of Youth Orchestras. Young musicians from Bulgaria, Great Britain, Hungary, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, and the United States took part. The United States was also represented at the festival by the Tacoma (Washington) Youth Symphony, conducted by C. Irvin Wright.
