Abstract
One out of every three Americans is being termed “disadvantaged.” Music educators must become aware of this problem. In some areas of the country music teachers have developed programs specifically designed for the disadvantaged. Others have instituted provisions to accommodate disadvantaged and culturally deprived youth through their existing programs. Descriptions of several programs for disadvantaged youth in the field of music education append this article.
