Abstract
THIS ARTICLE was originally delivered as an address to the representatives of the National Association of Schools of Music in Chicago on November 26, 1960, during the thirty-sixth annual meeting of the Association. It is being printed in Music Educators Journal on account of its special interest for music educators. Earl V. Moore is chairman of the NASM Commission on Curricula and acting head of the Department of Music of the University of Houston, a position he assumed after his retirement last year as Dean of the School of Music of the University of Michigan.
