Abstract
THE WRITER of this article, a native of Vienna, Austria, is the author of “Costuming for the Modern Stage,” June 1957, published by the University of Illinois Press. A freelance commercial designer, Mrs. Zirner's formal education and professional training took place in Vienna. In this country, she has had extensive experience as a visual aids designer for the Department of the Army, has been on the faculties of the University of Illinois, Institute of Design, Chicago, and the Berkshire Music Center at Tanglewood. She started work on the design of “unit costumes” for the University of Illinois Opera Workshop in 1948 and has designed costumes for all operatic productions since then.
