Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe the development and make assessments about the I effectiveness of a federally funded arts-in-education project. This project was undertaken by the Homer (New York) Central Schools in response to the concern that some educators have expressed over the isolation of the arts in American education. Selected antecedents, transactions, and outcomes were described and analyzed (Stake, 1975). The author compiled a list of issues; collected the data by means of interviews with participants, document reviews, and observations; and concluded that the project provided a variety of arts activities but did not reach the stated goal of integrating arts experiences on a regular basis into the total school program. Results of the study suggest that an arts-in-education program should be based on a clear idea of need and have a systematic structure to implement activities, including the regular involvement of existing arts programs.
