Globalization Influences on Teaching Psychology in Saudi Arabia

Abstract

In the past two decades, the teaching of psychology in King Saudi University (KSU) has been strongly influenced by globalization. The combination of Saudi faculty earning advanced degrees in western countries, establishing a teaching and learning center that has brought western consultants to advise faculty and administrators on issues surrounding teaching and learning, and seeking institutional and program accreditation has strongly influenced how KSU professors teach psychology. Western influence has been particularly strong on the curricular issues, methods used to teach psychology, and approaches to assess student learning.
