Abstract
To increase psychology students' understanding of and commitment to critically evaluating information found on the World Wide Web (WWW), students were asked to complete an online tutorial. The tutorial was designed to provide information about how to critically examine web-based material. It also included several active-learning activities which required students to apply the evaluation criteria to sites on the WWW. Students in two different psychology courses reported significantly more perceived confidence, skill and knowledge about critically evaluating web-based information after completing the tutorial, attesting to the effectiveness of the exercise.
