Abstract
It is the perception of many academics that the use of experimental practical work in the teaching of biological psychology has been in decline over the last 10–20 years. The time restraints of the new modular degree systems as well as increased student numbers has made provision of practical work more difficult and in some cases vanish altogether. It was the purpose of the current investigation to sample current practice and disseminate details of practical work that could be used within the restraints of the 21st century University environment. Indeed, more than 70% of the respondents in the current survey wanted to offer more practical work in their modules, indicating that this is an issue of concern to many. It is hoped that the current investigation will focus attention upon the dwindling provision of practical experimentation for our students and spread good practice amongst psychology teaching staff in the UK.
