Abstract
There exists a variety of evidence to suggest that the views of English pupils of Germans and Germany are uniform ally negative and are formed at an early age. Based upon data collected from a sample of primary school pupils, this paper explores the validity of this claim. It describes elements of anti-German rhetoric at work in English popular culture and an analysis of pupil perceptions of Germans and Germany based upon interview responses. The conclusions analyse the data discussed in the paper and offers some thoughts regarding the development of a curriculum that might help combat the inter-cultural hostility reported in the paper.
