Abstract

This article explores the way in which Professor Celia Genishi structured her expansive scholarship on her fundamental commitment to social justice. Written from the perspective of the author's long collegial relationship and deep regard for the creative dynamics of Genishi's research and writing, the article is based on an interview with Genishi as well as an exploration of varied publications between 1981 and 2011. The article gives special recognition to the Advocates for Justice Award received by Dr Genishi from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) in 1998 as well as her career-long focus on a ‘one-on-one’ approach to the individual within the context of educational change. It concludes with recommendations from Genishi for continued resilience and application of hopeful imagination to the education of the teachers of the future.
