Abstract
The article identifies an instructional design strategy for achieving a type of high order learning, rule learning. The strategy includes the use of an advance organizer, a defining rule, and program examples/exercises. Application of the strategy is then made to the development of CAI in learning the rule for “average speed.” Significant to the intent of the article is the emphasis given to the use of sound instructional design principles to guide the development of instruction for the microcomputer (or for any other medium), especially when the intent is to create an environment for high order learning.
