Abstract
This article presents a comprehensive flexible workflow that is transferable to any Web project and can be easily modified to the needs of a specific environment. The article approaches the matter from both theoretical and hands-on perspectives: it presents fundamentals for building products based on user-centered design principles and guides readers through a real-life Web development project. Three major project milestones are covered—preliminary analysis; design and development; deployment and maintenance—with pertaining objectives, methodologies, and deliverables for each step. A complete redesign of the Stony Brook University Libraries Website illustrates how conceptual precepts (stages, strategies, methodologies) get implemented in an actual Web development cycle.
