Abstract
Technology systems which have begun to make a tremendous impact in an area not noted for its technological background are library networks. Everyone is aware of the so-called “information explosion” and many if not most libraries are not able to afford or have space to store the new information. Users are finding it much more time consuming to locate needed materials. Thus, library sharing or its technological equivalent-computerized networks are becoming popular. This article is an overview of what they are, what they are not, their advantages and disadvantages. The time may be fast approaching when a library is judged, not by the number of books, but by its services to its users.
