Abstract
This paper describes the archaeological survey recently conducted by the New York State Bureau of Historic Sites at New Windsor Cantonment, near Newburgh, New York. This site was the last winter encampment of the Continental Army during 1782–83. A research project which emphasized non-destructive field methods was undertaken and has provided new information regarding the daily life of the Continental soldiers at the cantonment. The results of ground-penetrating radar, magnetometer, soil chemical surveys, and the reexamination of an existing collection are discussed in terms of acquiring new understandings of this site, while preserving the historic remains there.
