Abstract
Narrative discourse coherence pays a critical role in making sense of past experiences and connecting with others. Such coherence varies among adults who have sustained neurological impairment. The purpose of this article is to describe impairments of narrative discourse in adults with brain injury. The following dimensions of discourse impairment are focused upon: topic maintenance, informativeness, event sequencing, referencing, conjunctive cohesion, and fluency. Examples of impaired adult narrative discourse are presented. Applications of this material are presented.
